Mission of the Club
The mission of a toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning
environment ,in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication & leadership skills,
which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth.

When does the club meet?
We meet every Thursday at 6:45 for 7:00 pm start. Meetings last 90 – 120 minutes.

1. Why the name Toastmasters?
Dr. Ralph C. Smedley started ‘Toastmasters’ in the US. The original intention of this club was to
help people to easily and confidently reply to toasts raised during banquets. Thus the name
‘Toastmasters’. But now, its sole focus is on developing communication and leadership skills.
2. When was the Toastmasters set up?
Toastmasters was set up in 1924 in the US. Today there are over 10,500 clubs across 90 countries.
South Delhi Toastmasters was charted on Feb 01, 2006.
3. What happens at a typical Toastmasters Meeting?
A typical Toastmasters meeting has three sections
1. Prepared Speeches
2. Table Topics (or impromptu speeches)
3. Evaluation
4. I am not a member. Can I attend?
Yes. You can. Normally all members started out as guests and became members after they had
attended a couple of meetings. South Delhi Toastmasters Club does not place a restriction on the
number of times you can attend as a guest.

6. Is there a cost involved?
Yes. Although ‘Toastmasters International’ www.toastmasters.org is a non-profit organization, yet
it charges a membership fee to meet its expenses. – One time joining fee paid only by new
members. It covers the cost of the New Member Kit and processing. In addition there is a Six
monthly advance subscription @ Rs 300 per month

Note: No member of the toastmasters club is paid from this fee collected and all executive
committee members do the various roles on honorary basis. A majority of the amount is remitted
to toastmasters international.
7. Is the membership transferable?
Membership of the club is transferable to any other Toastmasters club in India or any other club in
the world. Normally clubs charge a nominal amount for membership transfer.
8. What other growth opportunities are there?
You can volunteer to take on leadership roles in the club as member of the Exectuive committee
that is elected by the members.
